Prideful to a Fault

It struck me recently that the seemingly endless debate of “Evolution versus Creation” contains an obvious irony on the side of Evolution.  First of all, it should be noted that, according to the Wikipedia definition, Creationism is the religious belief that the universe and life originated “from specific acts of divine creation.” For young Earth creationists, this includes a biblical literalist interpretation of the Genesis creation narrative and the rejection of the scientific theory of evolution.  Wikipedia contains this definition for Evolution: Life on earth evolved gradually beginning with one primitive species—perhaps a self-replicating molecule—that lived more than 3.5 billion years ago; it then branched out over time, throwing off many new and diverse species; and the mechanism for most (but not all) of evolutionary change is natural selection. (Jerry Coyne, 2009).

Obviously, Christians believe in the Biblical story of creation in the book of Genesis.  Christians are taught throughout Scripture to be obedient to God, to be humble, and to be meek before God; in other words, to give up any self-righteousness and pride and trust fully in God.

This leaves the non-Christians who, instead of accepting what God told them, seek knowledge on their own.  This is pride – believing strongly that you know more than someone else, or even God.  When humans have received a clear-cut description from God as to how everything we see, hear, touch, etc., came into being and ignore it thinking they can find a different reason for our existence (that everything evolved from a single organism), that is pride.

The paradox is this.  The Evolutionists are desperately trying to prove that we came out of randomness, making human beings (even the earth and our solar system) meaningless and less than trivial in the universe.  It seems that a prideful person would be desperately trying to show that he mattered greatly in the universe rather than having absolutely no meaning whatsoever.  Isn’t it comical (or truly sad) that man is struggling fiercely to prove to insignificant beings created out of randomness for no reason whatsoever, that he is right?
