There is no “Second America”

The Editor for a German newspaper group, Welt, recently penned an op-ed for The New York Times. He articulated a surprising European perspective on President Obama’s “Europeanization” of America. Referring to the Syrian civil war, Clemens Wergin wrote: “I suddenly understood the problem with this American president and his foreign policy. He sounded just like a German politician: all moral outrage, but little else to help end one of the most devastating civil wars of our age. President Obama, I

When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?

In 1954, the American Legion sponsored a series of network television broadcasts called “Back to God.” On one of those national telecasts, President Dwight D. Eisenhower appeared from the White House. He thanked the American Legion for urging Americans to acknowledge God in their daily lives. Then the President said, “As a former soldier, I am delighted that our veterans are sponsoring a movement to increase our awareness of God in our daily lives. In battle, they (the veterans) learned

Today’s “Laodicean Church”

Paul famously described these days in his second letter to Timothy. He says in part, “There will be terrible times in the last days. Remember the firestorm created when the HHS announced that religious organizations such as hospitals, charities, schools, and colleges and universities will be required to offer their employees insurance packages that include contraceptives and abortifacients? Never mind that the churches which sponsor those organizations are spiritually and morally opposed to those practices. This is Obamacare and it supersedes trivial stuff like spiritual values, morals, conscience,

Koran Burning: Obama’s Response

..In Afghanistan, three American soldiers were disposing of various damaged and unusable religious materials at NATO’S Bagram Air Force Base north of Kabul. Included in the items they were burning in the base’s burn pit, were several copies of the Koran. These were Korans that the American government had purchased to provide free of charge to the jihadist prisoners held on the base. However, several of these books were damaged and some had been used by prisoners to pass messages

President Obama Speaks on His Christianity

After hearing and seeing so much anti-Christian rhetoric regarding our President, I read with great interest his recent message at the National Prayer Breakfast on February 3.  Here are some highlights from his enlightening talk on his Christianity: My Christian faith then has been a sustaining force for me over these last few years. All the more so, when Michelle and I hear our faith questioned from time to time, we are reminded that ultimately what matters is not what
